Singer still plugging away as rumors swirl at record company

Janet Jackson is in the midst of a promotional tour in Japan for her new album, “20 Y.O.,” which has sold far less than expected here in the United States and has led to reports of boyfriend Jermaine Dupri leaving his Virgin Records post in the wake of its poor performance.

“20 Y.O.” went on sale in Japan on Oct. 20, reports the Associated Press. Jackson is in the country in hopes of increasing demand for the product. Dressed in a bright red kimono, Jackson appeared before journalists at a jam-packed news conference.

"I miss dancing, so I wanted it to be a dance album," Jackson told reporters. On bringing in Dupri as a producer, she said: "He added a rawness. He brought a freshness to the project."

Jackson also announced that she is preparing a world tour behind the album, with rehearsals to begin at the end of the year. She said she will likely be on the road from March or April, with Japan as one of her stops.

"I always enjoy myself in Japan, even though the majority of my time is work-related," she said. "I will definitely be back."
